Welcome to the Southern Golf League—where competition meets camaraderie. Founded in 2025, the SGL was created targeting quality, competitive match play for male golfers with handicaps between 5 and 15 across the South of England. Our mission is simple, bring clubs together in a structured league format that transforms traditional friendly matches into something bigger, while taking the hassle out of score-keeping. With the SGL providing the framework, clubs can focus on what matters most—great golf, great competition, and great company.

Dear Club Representative,

Launched in 2025, the SGL brought five Sussex clubs together in a structured league format that made inter-club competition smoother, fairer, and more exciting than ever. The result? A hugely successful first season, glowing word of mouth, and a demand for more.

Now, we’re expanding. In 2026, we’re building multiple divisions across the South of England, giving ambitious clubs the chance to compete, climb, and cement their place in one of the region’s most exciting new leagues.

The format is simple: competitive match play, built around your existing club calendar—no extra admin, no scheduling headaches. Just the thrill of promotion and the drama of relegation, season after season.

If your club wants to be part of the South’s fastest-growing golf league, the time to join is now. Don’t just play golf—play for something bigger.

League Format & Key Details:

• Entry Fee: £50 per club for the season
• Handicap Eligibility: Handicap index 5–15 (as legislated by Golf England)
• Match Format: Four-ball better-ball, 90% difference of handicap (best player plays off scratch)
• Tournament Structure: Each club plays 4/5 home and 4/5 away matches against division competitors (dependent on division group size)
• Team Requirements: Each club must field a team of 12 players per match
• Reciprocal Golf Fees: All participating clubs agree to reciprocal green fees
• Club Representation: Each club must nominate a representative and adhere to tournament rules
• League Growth: Clubs can participate in the tournament committee to shape future seasons
• Hosting Privileges: Clubs can organize additional events within league guidelines

• An end-of-season Gala, hosted by a different club each year—boosting visibility, driving revenue, and showcasing everything your club has to offer both on and off the course.
